During my last year at the University of Cincinnati, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a Green Redesign Competition through the 1819 Innovation Hub for sustainable footwear leader, Allbirds. Six teams of multidisciplinary students were asked the question, "How can the current packaging solution be reevaluated to decrease the environmental footprint?" My team, Cecelia Favorito, Devon Saccocio, Sagar Panwar, and and I were able to collaborate on a level that brought out the best of our skill sets, and we were awarded first place based on the solutions we delivered!

I feel so fortunate that the 1819 Innovation Hub organized this competition, giving students the opportunity to collaborate with such an inspiring company. Getting to present these solutions to Tim Brown and members of the Allbirds design team was such an inspiring experience. Hearing Tim speak about the urgency of holding companies accountable for their carbon emissions, being the best “scorecard” for sustainability we have to date, was eye opening and notable.
